The vision for the future of Market Square and the High Street
During my time as a councillor, and during the last year as Mayor, I have passionately championed championed local business, and especially Market Square and the High Street. The Hunts Post invited me to write two newspaper columns, in which I outlined my vision for the future of St Neots.
Supporting Levellers Lane businesses
I sometimes fall into the trap of talking about “supporting the high street” or the “town centre” when actually what we need to do is support the business economy of the whole town. Which is why I spent some time on Tuesday morning making unannounced visits to various excellent businesses on the Levellers Lane industrial estate. Although times have obviously tough due to Covid-19, it was exciting to learn about this exciting community of local businesses, many of whom are thriving through your continued support.
Supporting the Church Walk business community
Ilove Church walk, not only does it have the best view in the whole town, but it is also home to a selection of our most unique shopping experiences. I spent this morning meeting the business owners and some of their customers. I can’t think of many more quintessential St Neots experiences than enjoying a cream tea at Poppy’s Vintage Tearoom while basking in the beautiful views of St Mary’s Church. It’s a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the high street.
Supporting the Farmer’s Market
I had a brilliant couple of hours meeting stallholders, customers and shopkeepers in St Neots at the weekend and more importantly returned with an empty wallet and bags stuffed full of goodies.
